Shim Yeeven
There are a few things you should know about the peeps who keep this blog alive, so here goes…
I am Shim Yeeven, a designer born and raised in the Not-So-Big Town of Tawau and to be good in what I do with designing and stuff, I need to have an extra-ordinary observation skill, something that I cannot just gain by sitting in front of my computer a whole day. I am an optimistic person who dislikes the old-fashioned idea of studying: sitting all day long reading and writing. Instead, I find it way more effective and fun to broaden my knowledge through travel and scuba diving. My dream is to work for the National Geographic one day, and to inspire people like how I have been inspired by the National Geographic to care about the planet; our planet.
I made my first plunge to a whole new world in 2008. I was with my group of friends and we made our first visit to Mabul Island. Under the bright sunlight with cool breeze blowing through my hair and sand in between my toes, I felt that this is the place for me. I started snorkelling but as I went further from the coral reef, I peeked down to the deep and I began to wonder, “What more can I see down under this deep blue ocean?”My curiosity grew and I decided to take up scuba diving.
It was not easy at all at first, I was sceptical and I wasn’t entirely sure about humans breathing underwater without gills… But the PADI dive crew at Mabul was so devoted and their professionalism was inspirational and after a doubtful first day, I mastered all the essential skills I need to learn and everything went smoothly onwards. I felt that the PADI Open Water Diver Course was challenging yet fun and I was rewarded with the key to the entrance of a world I once thought impossible for me; the underwater realm that I have only been able to see on television. I started off as an adventurous and zealous but lonely diver longing for a dive buddy. Fortunately the more I dive the more new friends I get to meet, and lonely I was no more. Now after 2 years of active diving, friends of mine have caught on to my catchphrase: “One Ocean, One Sound”; making a clear statement that we've all been bitten by the dive-bug.
I am currently a PADI Instructor. So I really hope that I get to meet all you visitors of www.sipadanvacations.com one day and we can all dive together at Sipadan!
